4 Kali Linux Tools You Need To Know About

Kali Linux Which is specialized for penetration testing and develops the interests of most people when they find out the term hacking. Especially when they are beginners. The problem being a beginner in Kali or to someone who just switched to is that they don't understand what all kind of tools are about, which exact tool they should try to for what purpose and lots of kind question regarding that. But if you just there to try out some Kali Linux tools for the testing purpose and want to explore more about it, how it works, for what purpose which tools works then I am going to show you this list of 4 tools in Kali that you should know about.

Nmap:

This is known as Network Mapper. Nmap is used for scanning the whole networks for open ports, mapping networks, and a lot of other things related to this. But this is mainly used for scanning networks to discover online PC’s and for security auditing. Most of the network admins use Nmap to discover online computer’s, open ports and manage services running. Nmap uses raw IP packets in a way to know which hosts are available on the network and what ports are opening which services (applications name and version) and what things are running on those systems. This comes into version GUI and command Line. But if you really want to learn something with this tool then probably you need to start from learning command line.

John The Ripper:
If you looking for a tool which can be used for cracking then this maybe one for you. Because there are many tools available for this specific purpose. But JTR is the tool which is very popular. John the ripper takes word lists which are Text files. The word list contains a list of previously cracked passwords from other sources and it also contains some common passwords. This tool is also used for many different types of dictionary attacks.

Wireshark:

Wireshark is an open source tool for network analysis and profiling the network traffic. This Kind of packets and this kind of tools are referred as Network Sniffers. Wireshark has previously known as Ethereal then it changed to Wireshark with some other advanced features and functionalities. It is used to monitor network traffic and analyze the packets that are sent out from a device. Wireshark can easily intercept network traffic ranging from connection level information to bits of the information which can make a signal packet. All of this is done in real time and show to the user in a readable format. There are a lot of developments made in the tool (platform) over the years and it includes filters, colour-coding the packets depending on their information and these features really help the penetration testers to go deeper in the network traffic and inspect the packets in detail.
This all process is done in real-time and shows to the user in a readable format. However, there are a lot of developments made in the tool (platform) over these years and it includes filters, colour-coding the packets. These features Wireshark helps the penetration testers to go deeper in the network traffic and analyse the packets in detail.

BURP Suit:

This is mostly used when need to do penetration testing. It can be used for going on full depth of this purpose. A lot of things that can do with this tool. You can get what this exactly for by going on its components and here are they:
  • Intercepting Proxy – This part of Burpsuite lets you inspect and modify all the requests and responses that your browser can make to the target application.
  • Repeater – It can modify and resend any individual requests.
  • Sequencer – Used to test the randomness of the tokens (csrf, authenticity_token etc )
  • Spider – This is one of the smooth tools for listing out all the directories and files on the server and its functionality.
  • Web Scanner – Web Scanner can detect the list of vulnerabilities present in the site.
  • Intruder – This is used to for creating and performing customized attacks to find and exploit unexpected errors.

Conclusion: These all tools can be used while you have Kali Linux, however, some of them are available on windows and other OS too. But I will prefer you to use these on Kali to explore these tools from deep. If you don't want to change the previous OS, like if you have windows then you can make live Kali Linux USB use whenever you got free time or according to your schedules. And by this, you can make more time to explore Kali features and functionalities.
